Just because it's not grounds for a lawsuit doesn't mean an artist and his fans aren't allowed to talk about how cynical and lame these ads are for trying to bite his style. And consider that instead of paying some talented commercial artist to come up with something original, the ad agency paid a hack to CTRL+V some 20+ year old clip art in a ham-handed attempt to rip off the humor of a nearly decade-old comic strip. It's not this summer's greatest injustice by a long shot, but the wet-noodle lashing of a few annoyed tweets is justified, I think.

Wow. The Live Feed's video literally showed every clip of the TNG crew. TLF withheld a few of the punchlines (like Tasha Yar, aka Denise Crosby, getting killed) but...Jeez! That was fucking lame.

I think it's more that you need curiosity. Calling it "an eye" can make it sound like you either have it or you don't. I think someone could develop it if they tried. It depends on what you're interested in. If you have this urgent to desire to be great at something, that's probably less useful than a curiosity that compels you to explore an art form and discover things on your own...

Well, you're right that you just need an eye. I call it photographic vision - that's what makes good photos. Some people just don't have, or enough of it.
