Heard something about Supreme Court nominee Solicitor General Elena Kagan from Jon Stewart (he was in line for the same bathroom that I was waiting for) that I had to fact check. Media Research Center confirmed it for me when they quoted ABC News:
…former Justice Thurgood Marshall affectionately called her “Shorty” when she clerked for him in the 1980s.
Funny stuff, but so irrelevant it’s sad that the MSM (mainstream media) is even talking about it.
Anyway…I’m not exactly sure what to think about Kagan: Some say she’s not a good move for Obama because she’s not liberal enough, but some say she’s a great move because she’s an academic without ideological baggage. My knee jerk reaction is to agree with the former and assume that the Harvard connection between Kagan and Obama makes this essentially a patronage appointment. But after a little thought I like the chess-like thinking behind the latter explanation. She’s got a deep background in theory to draw from which can be a useful weapon of persuasion to wield against the entrenched right-wing of the Court.
