I had a feeling that it was only a matter of time before China’s censorship policy came up against Google’s conscience (its motto is: “Don’t be evil.”) and the power of its ubiquity.
Although the company did not accuse the Chinese government of being behind the hack attacks [on email accounts of human rights activists], Google said that the attacks, combined with attempts by China over the last year to “further limit free speech on the web” led it to conclude that it needed to “review the feasibility of our business operations in China.”
If only Google would leverage the same pressure against our own government…
