Great new podcast: Doug Loves Movies

This is technically not new, but it is new to me, and I’ve been consuming it nonstop for about a week. Comedian and twitterholic Doug Benson (“Stoner of the Year 2006″ according to High Times Magazine) hosts a show at the UCB Theatre in Los Angeles that he records and later puts on iTunes for download (also known as “podcasting”). He’s been doing one or two of these a month since May 2008, and each one features a panel of comedian (or actor) guests that are often friends of Benson’s. The theme is movies and the show climaxes with the Leonard Maltin Game–something Benson and Brian Posehn invented while roommates…and stoners.

The Leonard Maltin Game sounds cool, but the players need to be serious movie buffs. The rules are: Doug thumbs through the Leonard Maltin movie book, finds a film, reads the review without giving the title away, tells the players how many cast members are listed and challenges them to name the movie in as few cast members as possible…starting from the bottom.

The show is basically silly. It starts out sarcastic and becomes downright mean when Benson ends each show calling Willem Defoe a shithead. Doug’s guests often include the cast of the Sarah Silverman Show, Patton Oswalt, the cast of Mr. Show, and Chris Hardwick.
