Betsy McCaughey recently appeared on The Daily Show to provide a critical look at health care reform. Jon Stewart tried to follow her logic, but failed; pointing out that her criticism amounted to misrepresentation and fear mongering.
McCaughey has a history of opposing health care reform. She wrote a legendary and falsehood-riddled article during the Clinton administration, and has picked her battle-axe right back up to oppose Obama’s plan.
The fact that she’s a director of a medical company should indicate where her loyalty lies. Her resignation is a classic PR move, not likely to change her outlook:
Cantel Medical says that the company received McCaughey's letter of resignation on Thursday. The letter, Cantel Medical says, “stated that she was resigning to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest during the national debate over healthcare reform.” McCaughey reportedly received about $30,000 a year in fees from the company.
