Bonaduce-free and loving it!

(This has been sitting in my drafts box for a bit…)

Danny Bonaduce got the boot from The Adam Carolla Show over the holiday break. Adam was gracious in the way he simultaneously thanked and bid good riddance to his former radio-scenery-chomping sidekick. Adam basically confirmed that he intentionally missed the last few shows of 2007 to prove that The Adam Carolla Show is crap with Danny. Props to him for that.

It was apparent that everyone else on the show was relieved by Bonaduce’s absence too, though they were as professional about it as they could be on their first day of the new year on the air (January 2, 2008). The show on that Wednesday was surprisingly normal (and has been since). The only guests were Tera Patrick (either drunk or high) and comedian Greg Fitzsimmons, soon to be the co-hosts of the AVN Award Show in Las Vegas. (To make up for Bonaduce’s absence I will have to bring that anecdote around to me on my own: I was able to witness the barely-clad attendees of a past AVN awards show exiting the theater it was held in a few years ago while in Vegas for a bachelor party. A few of my luckier and well-connected friends actually got a table in the audience to watch the circus live. From their grins I guessed they had a good time.)

Adam inevitably got into a rant about parenthood (i.e., the great job that the Spears girls’ mom obviously did) and and about the crippling sense of White Guilt that permeated his childhood home. (To this I can relate, and bring around to myself as well.) Actually he set himself up for the rant with his own choice of a bad song to replace “Auld Lang Syne.” That was the theme for Wednesday’s edition of Music Monday. He chose Barry McGuire’s apocalyptic downer “Eve of Destruction.” His parents (like mine) essentially drilled the message of that song into his head throughout his childhood leaving lasting psychic scars…
